‘Frozen Dragon’ is an image I created of Grand Teton National Park - the original home to Shoshone - Bannock peoples. Shot from the west side, I was excited to find a composition that distorts this extremely photographed area. With the alpine isolated against the sky, the peaks appear like the towering rock faces of Antartica, shooting directly out of glaciers and could be viewed as dragon’s back cresting out of a frozen glacier. The outside temp was -18F and I was fortunate to have my truck running just off the highway to stay warm while hopping in and out to capture the peak atmospheric alpenglow looking to the East while the sun was still casting direct light on the towering peaks. I feel that the shielded subalpine region creates a hidden potential energy secretly building on the already visible powerful magnificence of the rocky peaks balanced by the frigid pink hues and purple foreground polished smooth by gentle winds. When viewed, I hope that wherever you are, you are warm and cozy and enjoying nature’s show.
